Functieomschrijving

At Benchmark, we develop innovative technology solutions that help our customers bring advanced products to market. Our engineers work on complex systems in high-tech environments, contributing to products that require precision, performance, and reliability.

To support the continued development of advanced RF and Test & Measurement solutions, we are looking for a highly skilled Senior C++ Firmware Engineer with expertise in Vector Network Analyzers (VNA), RF measurements, and instrument software development.

This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge measurement systems, extending instrument capabilities into the mmWave domain while collaborating with international engineering teams operating at the forefront of high-frequency technology.

The Role

As a Senior C++ Firmware Engineer, you will take technical ownership of software subsystems within advanced Test & Measurement products. You will contribute to the integration of mmWave converter functionality, development of calibration-related features, firmware verification, and enhancement of VNA measurement capabilities up to 170 GHz.

You are comfortable working with large existing software architectures and can effectively analyze, modify, and extend complex instrument software while maintaining product quality and performance.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who combines strong C++ development capabilities with practical understanding of RF measurements, calibration concepts, and automated verification methodologies.

You will also leverage AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI, or similar technologies to improve development efficiency while maintaining full engineering ownership of the solution delivered.

Your Responsibilities

  • Take technical ownership of firmware and software subsystems within advanced Test & Measurement products

  • Analyze and extend existing C++ software architectures and instrument software platforms

  • Develop and integrate new functionality for VNA and mmWave measurement systems

  • Implement calibration-related features and measurement workflows

  • Support integration of mmWave converters and high-frequency measurement capabilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain SCPI-controlled instrument functionality

  • Develop and execute automated verification and validation activities

  • Create and maintain Python-based test automation frameworks

  • Perform debugging, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization

  • Ensure software quality through unit, integration, and system testing

  • Collaborate with system architects, firmware engineers, hardware engineers, and customer-facing technical teams

  • Identify technical risks, dependencies, and integration challenges at an early stage

  • Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge sharing, and engineering best practices

  • Apply AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve productivity, code quality, testing, and documentation

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field

  • Strong professional experience with modern C++ software development

  • Experience working with large-scale instrument software or firmware codebases

  • Experience with C++ templates, generic programming, and modern software design principles

  • Experience with Qt application development

  • Experience with firmware development, hardware communication, and device control

  • Advanced knowledge of multithreading and concurrent software architectures

  • Experience with Visual Studio and CMake-based development environments

  • Strong understanding of SCPI protocols and instrument control

  • Experience with Python-based automated testing and verification

  • Experience with unit, integration, and system-level testing

  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI, or similar technologies

  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical problem-solving skills

  • Ability to independently execute work packages and take technical ownership

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Experience collaborating within distributed or international engineering teams using Git

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Vector Network Analyzers (VNA)

  • RF measurement and calibration expertise

  • Knowledge of S-parameter measurements, leveling, and ALC concepts

  • Experience within the Test & Measurement industry

  • Experience with mmWave converters and high-frequency measurement systems

  • Familiarity with Spectrum Analyzer or Signal Generator products

  • Experience with automated test frameworks such as PyTest

  • Experience working within remote or customer-hosted development environments

  • Experience interacting directly with technical customer stakeholders

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of high-frequency RF systems above 110 GHz

  • Digital Design Test (DDT) experience

  • On-wafer measurement experience

  • Familiarity with measurement simulation environments
