Principal Engineer Multiphysics

We are looking for a Principal Engineer to play a key role in our growth strategy. Think of yourself as “the CTO of Benchmark within your area of expertise”: a strategic partner who brings together technology, business, and people. Within multiphysics, you will focus on areas such as fiber optics, photonics, free-space optics, and more.

You will stay ahead in product development and technologies such as AI and automation. Together with multidisciplinary teams, you will make decisions that have both tactical and strategic impact.

Your responsibilities, among others, will be:

• Develop and execute a Technical Competence Roadmap aligned with customer strategies and Benchmark’s growth objectives.

• Initiate technology and process improvements that strengthen our competitive position.

• Provide technical leadership within the team: you are the subject matter expert in multiphysics and drive innovation and quality.

• Build and maintain a strong internal and external network to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.

• Work closely with Business Development to translate customer requirements into technical solutions, contributing to the expansion of our customer portfolio.

• Translate technological trends into strategic choices and ensure colleagues quickly embrace these changes.

To successfully carry out the above tasks, you will leverage your expertise in multiphysics by combining your knowledge of optics with expertise in the following domains: electronics, software, and mechanics. You will integrate this with development processes, simulation, and verification tools to ensure a structured, project-based approach.

Your profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field.

• Proven optical expertise complemented by broad technical knowledge across multiple domains in product development (electronics, software, mechanics, industrial design).

• Knowledge of project management, NPI, and experience with product qualification and certification standards.

• Strong communication skills for technical documentation, knowledge transfer, and training.

• Entrepreneurial, decisive, proactive, and results-oriented mindset.
